Are you worried BP goes under and the UK becomes the 51st State?

No. But since the UK monarchy owns a huge stake in BP, will the UK
start a war with us? Will the British Virgin Islands attack us?
You never know if they are in bad mood. Remember the Falklands.

Luckily a good chunk of the investors are Americans.

And benefit scroungers, including me unfortunately, as I was made
redundant from my private sector job last year and even the most
menial job has about 100 applicants for it. I have only managed to do
a few weeks' temping work so far. And it's likely to get much worse! I

Well they must be doing something good. For a little over $300 you can buy one mesely share of the company.
I'm not sure how many US based companies have share prices that high. It ain't many, if any.
So long as there are sheep willing to drive SUVs and not try a bike in
the community, BIG OIL gets fed.

I tried to reflect in the above post that the EVIL BIG OIL is just
doing the dirty job for stockholders and the general public (the
sheep) who are addicted to the stuff, all with the blessing of the Big
Brother.

Do you think they are open to alternative transportation?

think that Messrs. Bush, Blair and Brown (why do they all have
surnames that start with a B?) have a lot to answer for.
BP gave more money to Obama than any other politician.

Obama gave the doomed BP oil rig a SAFETY AWARD two weeks before it blew up.

Obama waived inspections and regulation enforcement of many deep-water gulf
oil rigs, including Horizon.

Obama waited nine full days to say a single public word about the spill.

Obama's chief of staff Rahm Emanuel (middle name "Israel" in an ironic,
self-hating twist) lived rent-free in a BP lobbyist's DC townhouse. (You
know, those lobbyists Obama pledged would be eliminated from his admin.)
Can you imagine if Carl Freaking Rove had had an arrangement like that?
Wonder if he paid taxes on that little deal.

Obama appointed an incompetent (read: corrupt) crony to head the MMS, then
fired her. When asked about it, the Man In Charge From Day One knew nothing
about it.

But it's all Bush's fault.

Got it.

I think the Republicans are more openly PRO-BUSINESS while the
Democrats really pretend to put a cap on it. But our most leftist
politician is likely to the right of Europe's most right wing.

The whole thing takes some thinking outside of the box.

Obama could have opened a whole new era when he rescued the American
automobile industry, which could have produced alternative
transportation (trains, trolleys, buses) instead of the same old junk
dependent on Big Oil.

Efficiency is the name of the game. Public transportation (properly
used) is so much more efficient than cars. Germany and Japan only have
a third of American consumption.

Bicycles can be used to further facilitate individual transportation
at the local level or in conjunction with public transportation.

I don't pity pensioners who invest in dirty oil. Let them be wise and

Frankly I HOPE BP GOES BANKRUPT!

Companies who put profit over safety endager everyone!

So assume BP goes bankrupt their substantial assets would be sold off,
paying all claims for damages.

the stock holders would loose big time, such is one of the risks of
stocks.

the name BP would disappear, current BP management would be out of
work.

the franchise BP stations would be sold and rebranded into other
names, the assets would continue in operation by other hopefully safer
companies.

the death of BP is critical to everyones safety!

other companies will take notice and decide safety must be above
profit.

if this fails to occur the next disaster might be a nuke power company
who puts profit over safety, and turns a big chunk of our country into
a death zone where no one can live for a 100,000 years while raising
the worlds cancer rate.

or a bio engineering company that accidently releases a artifical life
form, killing millions, with the potential to wipe out humans on
earth......

BP needs to die for everyones safety!!

The death of BP (BRITISH Petroleum) would just allow the big US
companies to take over the same markets, to the great detriment of the
UK economy. Do you really want that?

Yes, then the UK will turn its attention to other sources of energy.
Germany has done it... why not you?

It's like I say, "Germany lost the war and won the peace."

Good question. It's shameful we're not doing more.

One reason I suspect (which is no excuse) is in the UK we have a much
higher population density. Nobody wants to live next to a wind turbine
so very few get built.

I hope we'll soon catch up with our neighbours in Europe by using
offshore wind, tidal and wave energy.

Certainly I don't want more nuclear here either. Scotland got that one
sorted - they have decided no more nuclear - why can't we decide the same?

I generate my own elecricity on the bicycle with my dynamo - I know it's

I'm afraid the reason is you are much closer to America than to
Europe. Not geographically, of course.

I'm trying to do my share here, but hanging in the hammock is my best
safe option so far. I save about 100w compared to a TV plus I turn off
the A/C. They are getting my banana, so to speak. ;)

Mercifully domestic AC is rare here in the UK. We Brits do our bit to

So it's not a place for hammocks. But you can get a thick quilted
hammock not a tropical one.

I'm kind of becoming an expert in the field of saving energy through
hammocks.

I bet bananas don't grow there either. ;)

No, although it's only a matter of time until they do! :-(

I saw some bananas in a banana tree in someone's front garden in Devon a
couple of years ago. I presume someone had bought them from a shop and
hung them there for a joke - they were hanging the wrong way up.

I like the quilted hammock idea! :-)

Yep, part of my wisdom I get from there. ;)

Actually I only find the details that support my wisdom of frugality.
I think wisdom can only be found on the street. Maybe I'm wrong

nah ... i didnt bother watching it. i guess im over-satired. i find it
impressive how much time of the day you spend on your anti-religious
meanderings ... i just figured that you MUST have a big bag of pot ...

I just got a mango tree, which is the Tree of Knowledge.

Then the birds come and tell me what's going in the jungle. They seek
refuge in my green patio from all the dangers out there.

Maybe I should call my patio the Garden of Eden.

Remember this: "WE NEED THE SPACE TO LIVE!"
Don't play The Scarcity Game.
More to the point, everyone knows we owe China & Japan oodles of money
to pay for Hussein Obama's little private wars...
I thought he inherited those hot potatoes, I mean hot spots.
Anyway, shouldn't we give up such Quixotic enterprises and start nation building here?
Imagine we had so many resources to do something really grandiose here.
STFU you Big Government Socialist! Go back to Red China with their
social purges and "5 year plans" if you want this "social engineering"
masquerading as nation building!
Actually I don't particularly like bureaucrats unless they solve a
problem, and more often than not, they are the problem!

Public transportation requires one, but launching a bike doesn't. I
think the cyclist is very symbol of anarchism, while the SUV
represents Libertarianism.

We should junk the SUV, tame traffic, create a good public
transportation system and proceed to open the roads for all vehicles
to share.

Mao was wrong but the current communist government is even more wrong
in trying to put the Chinese to imitate the American lifestyle. That's
the greatest ecological disaster awaiting us.

Before we can talk about bike safety we must talk about TRAFFIC
SAFETY. I bet the average driver out there doesn't even question it
and politicians couldn't care less, but it's a NATIONAL CATASTROPHE.

The way to be safe is to go BIG. A cyclist is just a nuisance on the
road and can be pushed around at will.

No surprise we get those numbers.

(Let me do my Sunday preaching about masturbation, hypocrisy, bicycles
and hammocks) ;)
No Christianity is bad for your brain. Masturbation is good for you, it
cures the urge to have sex before marriage and thus it decreases the
abortion rate. It also prevents rape and people acting out their
perverted
fantasies. If there was no Masturbation everyone would be as stuck up and
high strung as Muslims. So when people call me a wanker I say yes, yes I
am.
You're proving yourself to be weirder all the time. If you ever did have
sex, you would know how ridiculous what you posted was.
--
As I explained to another poster I was trying to appeal to the religious nut
who said masturbation is bad for you. Masturbation and sex is good for you.
If Muslims masturbated more they wouldn't be so uptight.
The name of the game for religion is hypocrisy. They do everything but
feel good to attack it in public. Hundreds are dying in Mexico over
the stupid prohibition, but we must pretend we are fighting evil. And
they also use prescription drugs which are another dependency.

I guess the monkey goes restless from staying in the cage and must
look for different outlets like masturbation or xanax.

I bet going out in this beautiful Sunday morning would be a great way
to "burn the calories," but it's a jungle out there. Christians get in
their cars, go to church and then go shopping.

And I'll get in my hammock.

if this fails to occur the next disaster might be a nuke power
company who puts profit over safety, and turns a big chunk of our
country into a death zone where no one can live for a 100,000
years while raising the worlds cancer rate.
or a bio engineering company that accidently releases a artifical
life form, killing millions, with the potential to wipe out humans
on earth......
BP needs to die for everyones safety!!
The death of BP (BRITISH Petroleum) would just allow the big US
companies to take over the same markets, to the great detriment of
the UK economy. Do you really want that?
Derek C
Yes, then the UK will turn its attention to other sources of energy.
Germany has done it... why not you?
It's like I say, "Germany lost the war and won the peace."
And Japan didnt. It never did see say an employed engineer end up
with the same real living standards that one in the US ended up with.

"The share of electricity from renewable energy in Germany has
increased from 6.3 percent in 2000 to about 16.1 percent in 2009.
And the result of that is MUCH higher electricity costs for german
consumers and industry.
The french approach makes a hell of a lot more sense,
they generate 90% of their electricity using nukes.
Post by His Highness the TibetanMonkey, Creator of the Movement of Tantra-Hammock
More than 9 billion euros (US$11.31 billion) was invested in new
renewable energy installations in Germany in 2006. Some 214,000
people in Germany were employed in the renewable energy sector
in 2006, especially in small and medium sized companies. Over half
of these jobs are attributed to the Renewable Energy Sources Act."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renewable_energy_in_Germany
Pity about the prices that consumers and industry pays for electricity.
If higher energy costs encourage savings,
They dont. They in fact REDUCE savings because those higher energy costs have to be incurred.
Post by His Highness the TibetanMonkey, Creator of the Movement of Tantra-Hammock
then it would in a welcome outcome.
Nope, that would fuck the economy, stupid.

Conversely, our low prices promote the SUVs and all the waste out there.
Wrong with ELECTRICITY prices.

OK, let's be honest, the CAMPAIGN BIKE FOR PEACE is not going to cut
it. More people masturbate than ride a bike, perhaps because it's
safer. So this other campaign is becoming very popular...

You know, I just named the official song of the campaign:

***OFFICIAL SONG OF THE CAMPAIGN: LIBERTANGO***

POWERFUL, LIBERATING, SEXY...

Other liberating campaigns are also growing fast. I hope you enjoyed
the music.

I gather you arent aware of the large dead zone around chernobyl?
thousands of communities abandoned, left to rot or torn down. People

Too dangerous for humans the cancer risk is too high.

And every NUKE plant in the US runs that same risk if the terrorists
bomb or find a way to interrupt cooling water to the waste core
storage pools. They arent in hardened buildings just metal ones....

Don't play The Scarcity Game.
More to the point, everyone knows we owe China&  Japan
oodles of money to pay for Hussein Obama's little private wars...
I thought he inherited those hot potatoes, I mean hot spots.
Anyway, shouldn't we give up such Quixotic enterprises and start nation building here?
Slick tried that approach and the US ended up with 9/11.
Better security would be a much wiser investment.

Shouldn't that be the "African American" Hole of Bureaucracy?

Not really. The old bureaucracy is still in place.

Revolutions are not complete until the old bureaucracy are replaced
with new ones.

Well, my revolution would never be something like that. Go ahead and
TAKE THE LANE, no stupid bike facilities to feed the contractors.

We will replace Jesus too with a new god...

(another requirement for true revolutions)

Easy to claim. Have fun actually substantiating that claim.

The fucking over of the Talibums from the air eliminated the terrorist
training camps in Afghanistan. There was no point in having thousands
of troops on the ground there to try to get democracy established
when those clowns cant even manage a viable election etc.

I
think that Messrs. Bush, Blair and Brown (why do they all have
surnames that start with a B?) have a lot to answer for.
BP gave more money to Obama than any other politician.
Obama gave the doomed BP oil rig a SAFETY AWARD two weeks before it blew up.
Obama waived inspections and regulation enforcement of many deep-water
gulf oil rigs, including Horizon.
Obama appointed an incompetent (read: corrupt) crony to head the MMS, then
fired her. When asked about it, the Man In Charge From Day One knew
nothing about it.
But it's all Bush's fault.
Got it.
Bill Sornson has got his facts straight and knows how to get to the point.
If only there were others on these newsgroups who had even half his
intelligence. But instead we are stuck with liberal ideologues who frankly
do not know their asses from a hole in the ground. Embrace an ideology and
become an idiot. That is about the only thing these newsgroups teach us.

And benefit scroungers, including me unfortunately, as I was made
redundant from my private sector job last year and even the most
menial job has about 100 applicants for it. I have only managed to do
a few weeks' temping work so far. And it's likely to get much worse! I

I was lucky last time I had no permie job I managed to get temp work
most weeks but it was mostly menial and sometimes downright unpleasant.
I remember the feeling well when the work dried up for a few weeks so
you have my every sympathy.

In fact I got my current permie job back in IT by applying for an
internal vacancy I noticed on the board at a warehouse I was picking in
at the time. That certainly got me fit what with riding the Moulton APB
I had at the time to & from the warehouse too.

Nope, its never down to the prez etc, regardless of how many are that mindlessly simplistic.

Its congress and parliament that was stupid enough to not have adequate regulation of the banks etc.

Not one of the australian or canadian banks imploded spectacularly, or even needed to be bailed out by govt.
